        "Peaches" the Ossabaw Island Hog

Peaches is a rare heritage breed and descendant of pigs released by Spanish explorers on Ossabaw Island off the coast of Georgia over 400 years ago.  She was born at the turn of this century, coming to us by way of Old World Wisconsin, and has lived her life with us relishing melons, sweet corn, and the chance to chat it up with visitors.

        Heritage breed chickens

In order to conserve genetic diversity while making delicious eggs available, we raise free-range heritage breed chickens, including Java, Ameraucana, Barred Plymouth Rock, Delaware, and Silver Laced Wyandottes, in our young orchard.  Most are laying hens, while a couple roosters are present to warn against predators and sustain the flock.

        Italian honey bees

We have these girls because they are important pollinators for many crops, but they share honey with us, as well.

        Sam and Morley

Buddha Sam is contemplative, even when sleeping.  He adopted us 14 years ago.  Morley is known as Miss T for trouble or Squirt for her speed.  Her calico coat reminded us of our soil type--Morley Silt Loam, thus her name.  She's the great mouse hunter.  She adopted us 1 and 1/2 years ago.

Claire, our Official Greeter, died at the age of 12 on Sunday, January 16, 2011.  She was an excellent dog.

        We miss her.
